A Tremendous Power I Cannot and Will NOT Resist

Published on February rd, 2009 - Author: Guest

Two commercials make me jump up and down.. spiritually on the inside as well as literally on the outside. They are … the Target and Under Armour commercial.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the tough economy, it’s that good ol’ quality time with your family and friends is priceless. Target seems to find a quirky way of reminding me that all the cheap things I can do in life – can be effortlessly purchased at Target! Because otherwise, how would I know that “this is the brand new day?” or that “it’s getting better everyday?” despite the stock market crashing, my friends getting laid off and constant bickering over a stimulus package that has yet to stimulate any package .. or lack thereof …of mine….I, too can find happiness in such things Target can provide. I too can get some work out clothes at Target (though I’m also a sucker for Lululemon so that don’t work)! I too can purchase some nailpolish and have an at home pedicure (though I screw up every time)! I too, if I had kids, could buy them OJ so they could bring me room service in the morning! I too, could purchase a dress for a nice date (if I ever got asked out)! I too, could go scuba diving in my pool (if the weather was ever over 70 degrees)! Yet, despite all my aforementioned cynicism, it somehow did genuinely remind that indeed it is a brand new day! In fact, now my dull days have become so overwhelmingly blah that each moment the Target commercial comes on, I am brightened by its mere message of simplicity and a smile finds its way to my face. The little things… just the lil things…

But of course, who could forget the Under Armour commercial?! It’s pumping enthusiasm! It’s revolutionary energy! It’s power to convince me that … “I don’t even know my power!!…NO!” And like a fool sucked in by the immense strength that is marketing, I found myself noting that January 31, 2009 was when these new Under Armour shoes (which do not have the arch support my bad feet need) would be released. Like a fool, I found myself getting up from the couch and getting dressed to go run. Like a fool, each image of a powerful woman, toned to the absolute core, hot and sexy running… had me PUMPED! Like a fool, the glimpses of each shot without a full commercial had me HOOKED. Like a fool, my heart was skipping, sprinting … then racing! Like a fool, I was going to go buy a pair of Under Armour New Feet shoes for women so I could also… run in the woods, on the beach, on the treadmill (on an incline of course) and show my power!

So in conclusion, we have learned that 1) I am a sucker for marketing … 2) music with a mind blowing rhythm and message controls me and 3) I am going to go to Target and Under Armour this weekend to buy me some cheap alternative activities and running shoes…
