  1. Pop Indie Rock Band Miniature Tigers Releases Terpendicular Music Video

Compared to a "giant detailed collage" and "Kanye West's Power video" by Stereogum's Jessica Suarez, "Bullfigher Jacket" takes you on a terpendicular Where's Waldo journey full of colorful characters doing perverse, yet innocently silly things. It's fun, it will make you laugh, and...you'll probably fall in love with it.

  2. Soft Stylings of Rumer

The Carpenters released their “Now & Then” album in 1973, but it wasn’t until the mid to late 70s that I picked it out of my dad’s record collection. It was out of pure boredom that I flicked through the stack of  LPs. Ordinarily if it didn’t wear any platforms or have the word ABBA...

  5. Afterlife with the Stars

Why is this the last time? Who was standing at the station and what was in that letter? The ethereal fifth studio album from Montreal’s finest indie pop outfit Stars catch shadows of memories in a fleeting breath of the past. It’s not obvious to write an endearing synth pop album about the afterlife, (the best description I heard was “breezy bereavement”) but “Five...

  7. Odd Bedfellows- Mehldau and Radiohead

But sometimes strange is good, and in this case, the unexpected turns sublime. Brad Mehldau is a master at tickling the ivories. A jazz pianist who for the most part performs and records with a trio, he has an impressive resume. Celebrated for his spontaneous and instinctive style of playing, he is champion of the improv. He has...

  8. Playlist: Candlelit Jazz

“And...if perhaps...by chance”, she says as she coyly mimics the hummingbird’s mating dance with the fluttering of her lashes, “you feel inspired to pair this music with a little French lace, some Italian leather, maybe a sprinkling of Caspian caviar and a decadent dollop of homemade truffle, I won’t stop you.” Curling up the corners of her glossy lips, she tilts her chin down as she innocently looks up at you, expectantly, hopefully.

  9. Sunday Playlist: FYF Fest

Though you may have no idea what FYF fest is, though you may not have interest in getting yourself to LA for said fest, though you have literally no interest in music, this week’s playlist features some of my favorite bands from the FYF Labor Day Weekend Festival in LA. Oh yeah and it’s for...

  10. It’s All About the Benjamins

Forbes Magazine has once again published its list of the highest earners in music, and apparently the key to hundreds of millions is touring and an extensive back catalogue. The appearance of U2 at the top of the list is not a big surprise. The massive 360 Tour is still criss crossing the globe and we...

  11. John Clayton Mayer (read this and be my friend, ok dude?)

I’m going to admit a secret to you guys. OK, well, if you know me, you’ll know that it’s not a real secret, but…I love John Mayer. I really, really do. I know that I’m really late to the party with his whole Playboy interview (I read it after it initially came out but forgot...

  12. Fabulous Flow Festival

Granted I happened to be on holiday in the area and I had not bought a ticket but was offered one as a friend had to cancel at the last minute, but the urban music Flow Festival turned out to be the highlights of my summer. Organised for the sixth year running as part of...

  13. Playlist: Meditation

Technically, you’re not supposed to need it. Technically, you’re supposed to be able to float a couple inches off the ground in a state of pure tranquility, pulse idle with no need for breath, all the while remaining completely unaffected by the external world. Technically, that’s what you’re supposed to do. The thing is, I’m human and each time I weigh myself, I’m reminded of the cruel joke gravity plays on me. I seem to have an obsessive attachment to breathing, and I thought getting my heart to pump faster was good for me.

  14. Sunday Playlist: New Treats

I decided for this week’s playlist to keep it simple and to the point, not that I have ever really dealt with anything on the level of complicated in my posts, especially as I’m frequently posting playlists. This week I present some enjoyable new (to me) tracks. 1. Department of Eagles- “While We’re Young” 2....
