You know that part in Mean Girls where everyone is like, “Regina George…how do I begin to explain Regina George?”, well that’s basically how I feel about Southland. Because honestly, it’s the best drama on television right now and you don’t even know because you’re not watching. And that, my friends, is a crying shame. Maybe you think it’s just another lame-ass procedural cop show but, and prepare to have your mind blown, it isn’t. I mean, yes the cop show thing is true but there’s nothing procedural about it. It’s a gritty and surprisingly authentic take on what it’s like to be a cop in Los Angeles; the characters are fleshed out, well-developed, and layered; the story lines are interwoven together beautifully; and on top of all the that the cinematography is breathtaking. I’ve lived in LA my entire life and they’re able to make it look like an entirely different city each week. And then there is the cast- the remarkable and astounding cast (which includes the likes of Ben Mckenzie, Michael Cudlitz, Shawn Hatosy, and Regina King) that somehow manages to knock their performances out of the park every episode. I know it probably it sounds like I’m gushing, and *Spoiler Alert* I totally am but that doesn’t make what I’m saying any less true. It’s one of the most consistently brilliant programs out there and tonight’s season finale promises to continue delivering on that statement. So Tivo whatever else you watch on Tuesdays (I wouldn’t know because I’ve got tunnel vision when it comes to Southland) and make sure to tune in live. I promise you’ll love it…or my name isn’t Pippins McGee.*
SouthLAnd airs Tuesdays at 10pm on TNT
*Okay, FINE, so my name isn’t actually Pippins McGee. Just watch the damn show, would ya?
