Church+State=Shit *Updated*

I came across this blog post on some girl’s myspace page. She voted YES on prop 8 which means she is FOR banning gay marriages.

The following is her post:

Before I begin, please understand that I’m speaking for myself and hopefully, most Christians. This does not apply to everyone voting Yes on Prop 8.

Many Christians are referred to as “hypocrites.” If you are Christian, and are tired of being referred to as a hypocrite, vote Yes on Prop 8. If you feel more towards, “Don’t hate vote no on 8,” then please stop cursing those who don’t agree with your beliefs, that’s just as bad. At school today, there was a rally on a walkway. One side were holding signs for yes on 8, the other no on 8. The Yes side was standing calmly with their signs and wishing everyone (regardless of their view) God’s blessings and a good day meanwhile the No side was badgering people to try to persuade them. A guy walked by who was being badgered and he gave a thumbs up to the Yes side and then a couple people from the no side said things like, “What’s wrong with you! Mother fucker!” Don’t hate? Who’s being hypocritical? Another called the Yes people Christian radicals. Not at all. If so, does that make the No people gay radicals even though there were gay couples groping on the corners with their signs and screaming at people? I’m sorry, who’s being discriminated against? In all honestly, I feel BOTH parties are.

If you are gay, please understand that I do not think differently of you. I’m a theatre major! Half of my friends from school are gay! I feel that a person’s sexual orientation, amongst many other characteristics a person can possess, does not change who they are as a person. Sweethearts and A$$holes occur in both straight and gay people, tall and short people, black and white people etc. I’m not (and hopefully Christians are not) voting Yes on 8 because I feel or think poorly about gay people. Now again, I’m aware this does not go for everyone. I’m certain that there are people voting Yes of 8 because they are prejudiced. Likewise, I feel some people are voting No on 8 because they simply don’t like Christians, God, or anything related to that. It’s unfair and closed minded to say that EVERYONE who votes No on 8 thinks the same and EVERYONE that votes Yes on 8 thinks the same.

My main purpose in writing this isn’t to change anybody’s mind. I personally feel that this is such a strong subject that people are going to believe what they’re going to believe regardless of how many “vote ‘yes’ and ‘no’” signs there are. My goal for this essay is to hopefully open your mind into realizing that people are bad, or stupid, or less, or evil, or cold, or negative, or any other poor choice word you have in mind because they vote Yes or No on this proposition.

Through much research and education, I have come to believe that the Bible is the sole resource to truth about life. I believe it is God’s instruction manual to life, God’s love letters, God’s warnings, and all of God’s words.

The Bible says, in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death.” It also says in Ephesians 5:3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.” It says in 1 Corinthians 6:9, “Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality.” Therefore, I believe that homosexuality is sin. Thus I cannot support it.

A girl at school told me that she didn’t think “That’s what Jesus meant” when the Bible spoke of sexual immorality even though the aforegoing Bible verse made that pretty clear. Then I pointed out that Sodom and Gammorah went up in flames because of homosexuality. She then responded with, “Sodom and Gammorah had many more problems that just that.” So she admitted that homosexuality was a problem and interestingly, that was the only issue mentioned in the Bible. So unless she found some ancient information about the issue that Sodom and Gammorah had, the only source is the Bible. She was also upset because she said that people for prop 8 are mostly Christians and that are throwing their money away instead of feeding starving people around the world. Don’t get me wrong, we are helping people around the world to the best of our ability and at the same time, standing up for the Bible. Well, God is amazing and has enables us to do both.

Hate the sin, not the sinner.

Another girl today told me that I was voting for hate. She couldn’t have me more wrong. As stated earlier, I don’t hate anyone, especially for their sexual orientation. This proposition is about love. The love I have for Christ. I am not voting for hate. I am voting No on putting a sin into the Constitution. I am voting Yes to obedience to Christ. I am voting Yes to standing up for my faith, Yes to loving the Lord, and Yes to the Bible being the sole words of Christ.

All in all, it’s completely your choice to think what you may about me and my decisions.

I would die tonight for my beliefs.

My Response

I have respect for you, I think you are a great person, however I don’t believe in the bible nor Christianity. Organized religion is not the word of God. If God wanted to set a religion I think it would unify everyone by creating ONE religion. By doing that, God would create sort of an equality for everyone.

You are mixing Church and State. You voted based on “faith.” Gay people never did anything to you. They are not going to take away rights from you, nor are they going to touch dicks in front of you when you are trying to have a bowl of cereal in the morning. This was about equality. Thanks to Christians everything has to be delayed again. Religion and religious people are closed minded. You are as well. As much as you are going to deny it, you are closed minded. You will refuse to see the big picture. You will refuse to weigh out other possibilities. It’s a weakness. Depend on yourself, create your own purpose. Don’t rely on an outer power to decide for you. You have you in this world and the people around you. Make the time you spend on earth a valuable one.

Another thing about religion’s mind set. Let’s not spend money on fixing our adoption system, or to cure cancer. Let’s build bigger churches. Let’s forget the homeless, they don’t need help. Let’s forget the single mom who now sells her body to feed her children. Let’s forget the 2 year old who is going to die of an incurable disease. We need more churches. Wasn’t it the same church that killed people for saying the world is not flat?? Let’s not advance as humans, let’s not grow and learn in a more logical sense. Yeah, let’s forget about the people in need, let’s make sure we take away rights from people. Let’s push our view on to other people. Let’s slowly destroy ourselves.

I understand many Christians, such as you, do good for others. Such as charity, donations, whatever it may be. But I really hope that you are doing it out of the kindness of your own heart, to help a fellow human, and not expecting a reward in the end. Do it because it’s a good thing to do, not because “Jesus” will give you brownie points. No one and I mean absolutely no one knows what I am about to tell you but I feel like it needs to be said in order to make a point/example. *I erased this sentence because I still don’t want people to know :P * I don’t do it because I am expecting a reward. I am not doing it because God told me to. I am doing it because as a human I want to help the ones who are in need. I won’t sit by my bed and pray for world peace. I am not going to rely on “Jesus” to do it for me. I get out there and do whatever I can to make sure we achieve a world peace. Unfortunately we won’t. People still cling on to their religion, creating difference, creating hate, creating war, creating poverty, which means we will never have world peace.

Religion is here to give us a sense of purpose. To teach us the difference between good and bad. It is man-made. Why can’t Jewish people use electricity from Friday to Sunday? Why can’t Muslims eat pork? Why can Christians admit to a sin and get rid of all the guilt but a Muslim has to be held responsible for eternity?

You have been a part of a group of people who took away the right to be equal for gay people. I hope your gay friends are disappointed in you. You HATE gay people. Hate isn’t just something sentimental, it’s also an act, and you acted upon it. You took rights from a group of people. Imagine if a group of people took away right from you. Remember it was only decades ago when women couldn’t vote. You have the right to vote now, use it wisely.

I hope instead of believing all that is religious, you step back for a second and look at things with an open mind. Religion is evil. It is man-made. It is nothing close to being perfect. It is failing us. I wish I had the funds and the power to take rights away from you. I truly wish. Don’t hate me, hate logic.
