I love the holidays for some reason. It’s one of those moments that you can just feel in the air — it’s an aura. The pervasive cheer is such a pleasant breath of fresh air from the rest of the dry, musty calendar. I have come to the realization that this is due to the great euphoria folks experience after being nice to other people. It might only be for a couple weeks, once a year, but in that time people seem to really dig “retail therapy”, that is, the catharsis of shopping for other people. Whether for other people or something more self-centered, the average American loves spending money. I would make a bet that if you walked the streets of LA and asked 25 people if they like shopping, I’m guessing 100% would say they do (come on, it’s LA). Recently, while out at a Christmas party I had the pleasure of being introduced to a person that was able to reaffirm this point very well. She told me about a movie that was coming out sometime in the future and sold me on it within minutes. She had me hooked on its plot, a true saleswoman her best. Anyway, the next day I hit YouTube up and found the trailer.
At first I had mixed feelings about the trailer; however, I looked a little deeper into the storyline of the movie and was able to come up with a really witty pith to its feel. This is not just a movie for the teenage girls, it has something for everyone. Maybe I just have a crush on Isla Fisher, who holds the movie’s leading role.
As I was reading up on the movie there was one specific marketing tactic that won me over. They came up with a FaceBook shopping game to go along with the movie.
If you have time you should go play it. I ended up spending a good three hours before I realized how much time I had been on it for.
Anyway the point of this article was just to say what a great movie this is, and when it comes out on February 13th, you should go see it. I suppose that’s my holiday gift to you — although that doesn’t mean I’ll buy your tickets!
