French Roast, with two locations in NYC, emulates the lively and cosmopolitan atmosphere of a Parisian bistro. I had the divine pleasure of eating lunch at French Roast Uptown recently, and was so taken with the restaurant that I went back later that evening for dinner and wine; the ambience, menu, and decor transported me out of New York and straight to Paris. Both establishments are open 24/7, offer reasonably priced meals, and are certified Green by the Green Restaurant Association! For a light lunch, I recommend the Duck Mousse Pate over mixed greens (8.25) and the Gratinee a l’oignon (onion soup, 6.25). That evening, my mother and I shared the Warm Leek and Goat Cheese Tartlet (8.50) and the Hanger Steak, grilled with fries and red wine shallot sauce (17.75) – both to die for.
