Ayad (pictured below) plays synth and samples for Boston electronica band Passion Pit. He kindly answered our goofy questions for an alternate take on the standard musician/band interview.
Liv: If you weren’t in a band, what would you be doing?
Ayad: Something with music. Commercials, scoring, programming, producing, remixing…I dunno, music is all I know nowadays…
Liv: Which cartoon character would you be, and why?
Ayad: Either the Cheshire Cat (from Alice in Wonderland) or Kung Fu Panda. Cheshire Cat because I like to lounge around a lot in weird places and positions, and I’m strange too. Kung Fu Panda because I was once jumping around my house with no shirt on doing ninja kicks and my roommate said I looked like him…
Liv: What’s that one song you wouldn’t want anyone to know you like?
Ayad: I have so many of those, but most people know I like them because really they are usually awesome songs. Latest secret love of the band is Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA”. I’ve recently been jamming out to Meat Loaf: “I’d do anything for love”.
Liv: What album do you wish you had recorded?
Ayad: I’m really impressed by the sound of Lykke Li’s record. The songs are great and it’s all so spacious yet full. It’s all about the subtleties… I believe Bjorn from Peter, Bjorn and John produced, which makes sense after hear the bass sounds on the album.
Liv: What’s your favorite board game?
Ayad: Risk. Definitely. I’ve been apart of some epic thirteen hour games which involved a negotiations room and then we found out our friend who stopped by to hang out for a few hours was actually a spy… serious.

this was way more fun to read than the usual journalist-musician Q&A. Also, serves as proof that there isn’t a single soul who DOESN’T like Party in the U.S.A.
