Designer collaborations with Target are taking the fashion world by storm. From Luella and Rodarte to the latest collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier and the upcoming Zac Posen, designer clothing is becoming more and more available to those of us with smaller wallets.
One would think that upscale, expensive designers would nix any hint of a partnership with an American superstore like Target or Walmart; however, it seems that designers are eager to jump on the collaboration bandwagon. And, what’s even more surprising is that models and celebrities are equally as excited to wear the designs as we are!
I remember when a Target opened up when I was in college, in a town called middle-of-nowhere, PA and people went wild for it. So, you can imagine how crazy fashionistas get when they hear about the launch date of a *insert notable designer* x Target collaboration. Just this past Sunday, I saw a hoard of girls clad in black tights and Dr. Martens rushing into the Target in Brooklyn because it was the release of Jean Paul Gaultier’s collaboration, which is now almost entirely sold out.
On April 25th, the much anticipated collaboration between Zac Posen x Target will hit stores nationwide, and thus the swarm of fashion obsessors will take over Target yet again. But here’s my question: are these obsessions really about the clothes, or is it because of the partial designer label that goes on them? Don’t get me wrong, I definitely find some of the pieces in each collaboration purchase worthy, but I can’t say that I am going goo-goo-ga-ga over them. So I ask you, what is it about these collaborations that put shoppers into such a frenzy? Leave your thoughts in the comment space…
