When I was growing up, I found myself falling for every douchebag that seemed to give a damn about me. Blindsided by the truth, I was naive, young, and stupid. Heartbreak after heartbreak (or what I thought was some sort of heartbreak mimicking what I saw on the TV), I felt like I was only getting hurt more and more.
My best friend, Dani, offered a solution to help me get over all the bullshit drama I was going through. She handed me He’s Just Not That Into You, written by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. She promised it would help me get over things, and I jumped into reading it. Two days later I had been schooled on the rules of rejection.
Over eight years later, that book that had helped serve as some sort of coping mechanism, is now a movie and I had the pleasure of watching the 12:15 showing at the Grove early this morning. Me and the girls watch a new movie every other week, so this movie came out with perfect timing.
Now that I’m in my 20′s, somehow or another I had abandoned everything I had ever learned from that book. My dating situation as of last night was a little iffy, but that movie made it all too clear.
http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=46411010Directed by Kent Kwapis and written by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, one can rest assured that the all star cast brought the funny and heartbreak together, mixed it in a blender and gave birth to one of the newest romantic comedies of this year. Some of the funny makers include Jennifer Anitson, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Bradley Cooper, Justin Long, and Scarlett Johansson, just to name a few.
Girls, and guys for that matter, you can definitely learn something from this movie.
As me and my girlfriends Sydney, Abby, and Katie sat on the balcony watching the movie, I realized that I was doing everything wrong. At some point in time I was once that pathetic girl that obsessed over every phone call, text message, IM, email, myspace/ facebook message, wall post, bulletin, and everything else you can think of. Don’t be like that. Pick up the book, watch the movie, and treat yourself to some real life advice.
