I just wanna do a quick discussion on High Dynamic Range (HDR). I really think HDR is really cool and can make some interesting artisticy pictures but other than that I feel that people are taking it too far and thinking it’s like the greatest fucking thing to happen to cameras since the lens was invented. For those of you who don’t know, HDR is a process of combining 3 for more pictures of the same thing but shot at different exposure levels as to capture all ranges of light and dark in a scene, more of how your eyes would see it. The funny thing is that true HDR pictures aren’t even viewable on a computer screen, or printable, you have to do Tonal mapping and other things to bring it into useable range.
Here is a Sample of good HDR
See how everything looks properly exposed and nice and pretty. The picture is awesome.
Here is a sample of Bad HDR
See how it looks plastic wrapped, overly detailed, and just plain weird.
So please heed this warning: go produce HDR and have fun with it, but please proceed with caution.
