Over the course of the past five years the street wear clothing industry has been a serious hobby and passion of mine. I have seen many brands succeed and I have seen even more fail. What I have come to realize is that many of the brands in the industry solely rely on hype as the driving force behind sales. Using limited editions to boost the exclusivity of their brands just to add that extra “hype” drives no name brands into the spotlight in relatively short time spans. There are several controlling brands out right now that despite them releasing poor quality products still manage to sell out every time. The sad part is that they are only selling products because they have huge marketing budgets and connections with the right people.
Here is the summer 2009 look book of a brand that has always been unique. Every design used is reinforces their distinct style and drive. Not to mention the quality of their product is meticulous. I even heard the owner hand checks every product before he lets it leave his warehouse, baller. Anyway, here is a brand that has been become well known because of hard work, quality products, and bad ass designs. They do not need hype to sell their products.
This is one brand that in my eyes has retained its integrity and drive, all while becoming well known and respected because of it attention to detail and design. To be honest I am getting very bored with the entire industry because the same trends keep getting used over and over. However occasionally I come across a few brands that I give full credit to for sticking to their craftsmanship and roots.
Here is my current list of brands that I feel have maintained their own unique style: The Hundreds, Johnny Cupcakes, Diamond Supply Co, Green Apple Tree, RVCA, Obey, 10 Deep, Triumvir, and Crooks and Castles.
