NOTE: This post only applies to jobs that feel like work. If your job description involves quality testing new ice cream flavors, you are not working, you just flat out suck.
But seriously, good on you, Mr. ice cream tester. You’ve got the right idea. So many people in this world think that life has to be crappy and they just accept the circumstances. I don’t believe in that way of thinking at all.
George Bernard Shaw once said, “The people who get ahead in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.” Too many people forget that they control their destinies. Life can be a wonderful thing, but like anything, you have to learn how to live a good life before life can be good. Only some of us are naturals at living the good life. Many people have to learn how to do this.
The only things that can’t be learned are those which nobody can teach. I’ve been looking for someone to teach me telekinesis, but nobody seems to be able to know how to do it; therefore, they cannot teach it; therefore, I cannot learn it. Apart from things like that, you can learn how to do just about anything.
Is life sucking for you at the moment. Are you tired, listless? Do you poop out at parties? I wish the solution to your problems were as easy as prescribing a bottle of Vitameatavegamin, but the real solution isn’t that much harder.
Just learn how.
I swear the solutions are out there, you just need to be willing to look for them. If you are unhappy, you are obviously unhappy for a reason. Instead of asking yourself why you’re so unhappy, ask yourself what you can do to get out of your rut. A slew of possibilities can arise out of that altered way of thinking.
I see so may of these types of people when I ride a subway or a train. I call them drones: people who are going through the motions. People who are living life as if they are on an assembly line. I look into their eyes and I see no life. They are the closest things to zombies that you can find in the real world.
The world has no use for these people. These are people who have accepted the belief that they are just another number. What the world needs is people who have a wonderful reason to live.
“Don’t ask what the world needs – ask what makes you come alive and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Some dude named Howard Martin said that. Imagine a world where everybody on a subway or a train was “alive”. Golly, the world would be like a huge Mardi Gras celebration.
I hope this little posting speaks to you on some level ’cause gosh darn it, I’m tired of seeing drones.

Amen Manuel..
Although I’ve gone through periods of dronedom, I’ve done it enough to know that it’s not for me, cause security actually makes me feel insecure.
I’m young but have read enough and experienced enough to know these things about life…People grow up wanting to be some occupation, but when you become a Dr., lawyer, whatever, you often end up changing and sacrificing pieces of yourself. I think people should first recognize what they desire and the way they want to live, and then find a way to make a living around that lifestyle.
…This topic has been on my mind alot lately..as it seems sink or swim for people my age these days. Great post!
