I somehow landed a free ticket to see Leonard Cohen here in Ireland. I have to confess, he kind of slipped through my musical net so to speak. I never got into him. I love lyricists like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits and as much as people told me to listen to Leonard Cohen, I simply never got around to it. I am delighted however, that I was lucky enough to catch him.

The man is seventy five and would put guys my age to shame. It has to be his last tour, so as he said himself, he was going to give it his all. He was as good as his word. He played for close to four hours, did five encores and skipped off the stage six or seven times (He actually did skip, youtube it). The electricity in the air was something else. The gig was at Lisadell house, which was frequented by Irish poet W.B Yeats, a hero of Cohen’s. During this performance of Hallelujah he confesses “I didn’t come to Yeats country to fool ya”.
He even made time for some haunting poetry. His golden voice is significantly deeper than it is on his early recordings but each holds merit. If you havn’t listen to Leonard Cohen, do yourself a favour and check him out.
