Park Poems…

It has been very nice the past few days in the city of Philadelphia. Jazz bands are jamming in the parks, people are jogging down all streets, couples are holding hands and enjoying the weather, and the city is anticipating the Stanley Cup Final. The summer is gradually coming, and the city has spoken. We want sun!

When the weather is nice I will stroll through a park. It’s nice to see people interact, and people watching is always a treat. Fun and informative. I’ve been going there the past week and scribbling away in my concept book. I have come up with images and have written ideas. Also poems, which I had put to the side for a month or two so I could focus more on illustration. Even though I wasn’t writing much poetry, I was writing a lot of random thoughts or alcohol induced rants about ignorant people. I mean honestly, not all of it is going to be positive. Especially when alcohol is involved.

I have had awkward feelings pertaining to old relationships. I’ve had problems dealing with people. The aspect of love has troubled me constantly. And most important is that I’ve felt very uninterested in my routine. This may seem like something that would curb all creative intuition, but it actually helps me out more. All that time inside my head has helped me use my imagination in many ways. And when I am quiet I get work done easily. My face is just planted in a book, either drawing or writing.

All of what I have mentioned in the paragraph above has been incorporated into my writing recently. Even more so in the poems I have written over the past week. With all of that in mind  I have found a new reason to be motivated. I’ve decided to let my moods dictate my writing. And I think it has helped. The sun and my mind have been great this week.

This below is taken from my notebook. Written on a park bench…

“Government States”

******

Image based, and

Position placed

to keep society spaced,

image of peace erased

******

Individuals put in groups

separated by bodies

as congress lobbies

preparing forbidden fruit

******

People told to turn a blind eye

focused on the one atop the pyramid

spend greenbacks, don’t sigh

these are government truths!

not a marketable lie!

******

Human soul for sale

morals thrown out to no avail

industry infiltrates and states,

Conformity: You’ll win, not fail

(Ten minutes after that was written I wrote this next entry.)

“RSVP”

******

Save the date, the letter reads.

The date staring me in the face,

with the time right beside.

I remember our time, although

it was never dated, only stated.

My face gleams,

reflected in the gold embroidered letters.

The date and time leaving an impression.

The letters and words sinking in.

Permanently pressed within the letter.

The letter sealed two fates.

A celebration to connect two souls.

But no room for a third party,

at the party that is.

Guests will arrive with gifts,

setting them atop the table.

As I find room for my excess baggage.

Perfect gift to receive before the honeymoon.

In my eyes, not others.

As they approach and say,

“You ruined her day! Do you even care?”

And I reply, “I do.”
