Persepolis

Persepolis is a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, about her life growing up in Iran and Europe. The story is wonderful and the art is stylistic, drawn in black and white.

The graphic novel shows Iran’s political struggle throughout the years, and the author’s own personal struggle growing up and becoming a strong independent woman at a time when that was not exactly easy to do. In 2007 it was adapted into a movie. I recently saw the film in a world cinema’s class and I was very impressed. It treads the line between politics and comedy brilliantly. The film is at times bleak and at times hilarious. I would suggest it to any film fan.
