The members of Swedish electronica indie group Miike Snow descended upon the stage of the Paradise in Boston last night [March 31st] , captivating the audience with an energetic and enthralling live performance. They began the set wearing identical masks; instead of creating a sense of anonymity and disconnect, the sartorial choice bewitched audience members by evoking intrigue and mystery. I found myself mesmerized by the fluidity of the performers in how they played their instruments and related to the music. The notoriously stiff Boston crowd exhibited more dance-like swaying than I’ve ever seen at a concert – congrats to Miike Snow for getting people to move.
Although the sound balance at the Paradise impeded aural reception of the vocals, lead singer Andrew Wyatt proved his musical expertise with beautiful soaring, anthem-like melodies; one audience member remarked, “I wish I could sing along, if only I knew the words.” Under the vocals, the band members executed every note and heart-pounding beat with the utmost precision.
I highly recommend seeing this band live. Check out their myspace here for upcoming tour dates.
