Stop Name-Calling

Published on August th, 2009 - Author: Britt Warner

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet…

No woman in her right mind wants to be called “ma” or “li’l mama” or “baby gurl” or even “sweetie,” especially if you are nothing more than a MySpace acquaintance whom I’ve never met in person. My friends and family have a zillion nicknames for me, most of which were derived out of humorous experiences and personal interactions. Unless you and I go way back, you can call me “Britt” (or Ms. Warner, if you’re nasty).

Take this into consideration with every female you cross paths (or profiles) with. Even the ones who post photos of themselves with their butt cheeks pressed against the camera lens deserve to be addressed properly. Yes, even them. Just because they demean themselves doesn’t mean you have to demean them further. There’s only one person who should be called “ma,” and that’s the lady who brought you into this world.

This Public Service Announcement has been brought to you courtesy of the Come Correct Movement. Thank you, and goodnight.
