Let’s get this out of the way:

I am a straight, completely straight, like an arrow, straight, guy that liked The Hills. It started off as just watching hot girls, getting into mischief, in the best city in the world. Then, the drama sucked me in. This Tuesday marks the end of one of MTV’s most successful shows ever. I never watched Laguna Beach back when it was on. I would often say it was stupid and for girls, despite only knowing hot ass Kristin Cavallari! WOO! So I judged the show without ever bothering to watch it. Then one, faithful Saturday morning, I turn on the television and put on MTV. There is this hot girl there, Lauren and she is late for an interview. There she meets an even hotter girl, Whitney, and they’re interviewing at Teen Vogue. Back at the apartments, a cute girl, Heidi, is talking to a WOOO smoking hot girl, Audrina, and they’re in bikinis. Little did I know, that I had stumbled on The Hills. It was a mini marathon and managed to catch a few episodes. From then on, I was hooked. I watched every episode, and followed these girls’ adventures as they went from young girls, to little women.

For those living under a rock, or had better things to do, The Hills is a “reality” show based on the lives of four women living in Hollywood. The cat fights, the guys, the drama, the awkward pauses, all were caught on camera for the world to see. Reality is in quotations because people often accused the show of not being real and being completely staged. The cast would often deny these claims, however, they would say that reshoots were often made of conversations and events that had actually occurred.

Season 1 consisted of the four girls’ struggle to find reliable guys in Hollywood. Heidi was in a rocky relationship with Jordan, Audrina was looking for love as well, and Lauren was revisited by an old boyfriend, Jason. Of course, Lauren was moving on up at Teen Vogue and at the end of the season, she was given the opportunity to work in Paris, France for the summer. Unfortunately, this conflicted with plans of moving in with Jason for the summer. Lauren ended up choosing Jason over Paris. A decision she would later regret.

Season 2 is quite possibly the best season. It starts off with the break up of Lauren and Jason, and the arrival of one of the most controversial characters, Spencer Pratt. Spencer was seeing Heidi at the time, but also trying to get with Audrina as well. Audrina saw right through him, unfortunately Heidi did not. No matter how many times he would hurt her, she would always come running back to him. This did not sit well with Lauren. Lauren was seeing one of Spencer’s good friends, Brody. Though their relationship would hit a brick wall when Heidi and Spencer convinced Lauren’s oldest friends, Jen, to “hook up” with Brody. Heidi trying to explain the situation to Lauren is one of the most tense scenes ever filmed on the show. Lauren is genuinely angry at everything about it and I have never heard someone say “bitch” with such passion like that before. The season ends with Heidi moving out of Lauren’s apartment and moving in with Spencer.

Not much happens in Season 3 and beyond, and this is where things fell off the wagon. The rumor of Lauren and Jason’s sex tape arose, causing a rift in their friendship, Heidi and Spencer getting married, Whitney leaving for New York, Audrina’s on and off relationship with Justin Bobby, and finally Lauren leaving the show in season 5. By season 5 the show was getting really stale and Lauren was getting tired of doing the show. The producers realized this, and in a last ditch effort to bring back up the ratings, they brought in Kristin Cavallari to join the cast. In the end, Kristin’s wild antics could not save the falling ratings and finally, MTV decided to pull the plug and give it one more season. Season 6 has been terrible with nothing much happening. I only watched this season, for the sake of being the last season.

You did nothing for me!

In the end, I learned a lot from The Hills. Yes, I learned some valuable life lessons.

1. I know what Hollywood douche bag guys act like, and learned not to act like them.

2. I did get a better fashion sense.

3. The various hot spots that the cast goes to, makes for great dates.

4. Paris is where people claim to have changed, yet repeat the same behaviors.

5. Los Angeles never looked so good!

With that, The Hills finally ends. Good night sweet prince.

P.S. The City sucked but Olivia is WOOO hot!

Don’t forget the popcorn
