Trailers Without Sound: TWIXT

Published on August rd, 2011 - Author: Alyssa Origami

Hello, and welcome to the very first installment of Trailers Without Sound (TWOS)! A new feature where yours truly watches trailers with the sound off and tries to muddle out what the hell is going on and whether or not it’s worth your time. You’re probably asking yourself, “why in the world would someone watch a trailer without sound?” Well, some of us work in an office with a computer that doesn’t have speakers so we have no choice. I mean, sure, I suppose I could watch them on my lunch break on my smart phone but I am a busy person with things to do.

Today’s offering is the trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s new film, Twixt:

Look it’s Val Kilmer, you guys! Man, remember him from Thunderheart? He was really good in that. Now he has a ponytail and is an author…about witches? and child murders? Sure, yes, that feels right. Looks like there are some new murders and the slightly creepy sheriff needs his help. And Elle Fanning is the ghost of a murdered child (probably). Also, he is having trouble writing a new book; you can tell because he has a troubled face montage- boy, do I love a good montage. With all the fire and the falling through staircases, I’m going to guess that at some point things go horribly awry. But honestly, what did he expect with a small town full of murdered ghost children? Next time, Val Kilmer, go to Martha’s Vineyard.

Verdict: With the unsettling storybook quality it’s sporting, and the seemingly creepy everything, the film looks to have some promise. I’d probably wait for a review or two though before I shelled out money to see it in the theater.
