Twilight of my life…Or how I discovered my feminine side.

Published on December th, 2008 - Author: Mikey P.

I am a dude. I am a nerd. I am an emo kid. All these things add up to me being completely smitten with fucking Twilight.

So originally I was adverse to this new book series because of the fact that I’m a hardcore Harry Potter fan, and before that, a Lord of Rings fan. So when people were declaring Twilight is the next Harry Potter. I was like “Fuck that, nothing comes close to Harry, you guys are fucking stupid.” That was my view of it for a while.

Then I met someone who was in love with the books, I started talking to them about it and getting a general idea of the plot, which slightly tingled my senses. Then the movie came out and being a film buff, I’ll see anything. I’m totally not one of the those people who bitches and moans about the differences between books and movies, I take each iteration as its own separate entity. So I went to see the movie at the cheap $7 theater. AND. I. ABSOLUTELY. FELL. IN. LOVE. Yeah that’s right, while it’s not the best movie I’ve ever seen, the story is fucking powerful and totally speaks to the emo kid I am. After getting out of the movie I immediately had the strongest urge and need to see it again, like Dark Knight urge to see it again.

The next day I headed directly to my nearest Borders and waded through the crowd of 13 year old girls around the Twilight display fingering through all the merchandise. I quickly snatched up a copy of Twilight, the original cover not the movie one, payed and headed to my nearest Starbucks to begin reading. While the book is totally written like a teenage romance novel, it is completely captivating. I read about 5 chapters that day and had already planed on seeing the movie again the next morning.

The movie was even better the second time, and because I had gotten a little bit into the book, I had a better reference to things in the movie. I also fell completely in love with Kristen Stewart, who I realized after watching her interview on David Letterman isn’t acting but truly is that kind of awkward cute girl she is in the movie. Rob Pattinson isn’t bad either. I realized after getting into the book a little more that he was a perfect Edward.

So at this point in time I’m about 3/4 of the way through the book, and I can’t wait to finish. But the interesting thing I’m finding myself doing is putting on certain songs or albums I see as being love songs/albums. The book really expresses the true and raw power of the love between Bella and Edward. It’s hard to read and not get a little depressed in that emo kid kinda way. You know the one, where you enjoy the depression.
