Under the Hollywood Stars

Published on September th, 2008 - Author: bushe

Where can you pack a picnic and wine, sit under the Hollywood stars, listen to angelic music and not spend more than twenty bucks? Does a place so magical even exist? It does in Los Angeles. I’m talking about Los Angeles’s own, The Hollywood Bowl.

The Hollywood Bowl is a beautiful venue with bench and box seating for 17,000 people. It is a venue like no other giving off the illusion of intimacy when in reality it is one of the biggest concert venues in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood Bowl has been around since 1922 and since than the venue has seen epic and legendary performances by The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Luciano Pavarotti. The old Hollywood venue is still holding up to its strong reputation with concerts including bands such as Beck, Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots, and Radiohead. The open air oasis for music even has its own orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Almost every week the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs at the Hollywood Bowl. The orchestra was founded in 1919 and only the best of the best have the honor of being part of the highly-praised symphony orchestra. Some nights they play alone and other nights they accompany a prestigious conductor, opera singer, or pianist. They have played alongside Belle and Sebastian and Bright Eyes in the past.

Do yourself a favor and pay the Hollywood Bowl a visit if you haven’t yet. There are a lot of great shows taking place every week! There is a Sound of Music sing along this week and Beck is playing with MGMT and Spoon next week! You can check the calendar at www.hollywoodbowl.com. See you there!
