Riley Bray channels American Folk and Rock and Roll through modern sonic sensibilities. With it’s driving downbeat rhythm and rich steel string textures, the music of Riley Bray is invitingly familiar, while strikingly new. Please join us in celebrating our debut release, the ‘Away from Me’ EP and music video. The night will be hosted by video director Armen Weitzman, and will feature both comedy and music, with performances by Charlyne Yi and other special guests. Doors open at 7. Festivities begin at 8, Riley Bray will take the stage at 9.

Bio:

Riley Bray’s music career began at the age of eight when he received his first walkman. As soon as he realized the tapes could record as well as play he was off and running. By the age of twelve he had put together his first band, Dangerfield Noobie. The group played their first gig in a little bar on the corner of Hollywood and Vine. They played at noon, as none of them were over 13. This band stayed together all through their high school years, and by the end were playing regularly at The Troubadour, El Rey, and sold out gigs at the Roxy and Key Club. The members all split ways for college and Riley headed off to U.C. Berkeley to study fine art, religion and psychology. At Berkeley he spent his days  exploring different instruments and styles of music. He played drums in a hip-hop band, keyboards in a jam band and in a post-wave punk band, guitar in several rock bands, and also continued singing and writing his own music. There was not a week that went by without a gig. Eventually he ended up playing lead guitar and singing in the Bay Area psych-rock outfit Fauna Valetta. The group self-released their debut record to limited but adamant critical acclaim. They soon hit the road on a west coast tour, followed by a 28 date tour of the U.S. Trudging through the East Coast winter on a shoestring budget, Riley only grew more hungry, more committed to his goal. Returning from tour and having finished a second Bachelors degree in music engineering at Ex’pression College, Riley put together a new band. Coming together to bring to life the sounds that had been rolling around inside his head, the group immediately clicked in a way Riley had not yet experienced.  They have been together for two months now and are on the cusp of releasing their debut EP “Away from Me”, as well as a music video for the title track. Featuring Riley (25) on vocals, guitar and keys, alongside Ben Margolin (19) on the fretless electric and upright bass, seasoned player Sean Hodge (27) on lead guitar, and the Gordon Jacobs (21) of Fauna Valetta on drums, the band creates a vibe that is as much influenced by the 70′s L.A. folk scene as it is by their own noise rock roots of the 90′s and 00′s. Together, they have arrived at a new freak-folk sound. Looking to the past while always pushing forward, Riley Bray is gaining ever more momentum with each passing day.
