It isn’t very often that there is a hometown band that people can be proud of. It’s even rarer when that bad comes home to a place where they got their start to share the love.

Having started in Seal Beach and spread their wings frequently at the Glass House in Pomona, Rx Bandits can definitely be considered a Pomona hometown hero, and they are.

This five-piece post-ska/progressive rock machine has been a favorite of mine for several years, and I can say having seen them, they put on one of hell of a show. By now I’m sure you are wondering why I’m writing about them.

Well here is the secret I’m letting you in on, but you didn’t hear from me…

My former Alma Mater of Cal Poly Pomona has an all day event for new and current students that culminates with a free concert. Well this year Rx Bandits has been slated to be the headliner! Yes, that’s right, they are playing a free show!

What makes this even better is, Cal Poly isn’t super anal like other schools that throw sweet shows for their students and have checks to make sure all those in attendance are in fact enrolled there. Anyone can just show up to this show in the main quad and watch. Now if that isn’t fan-freaking-tastic I don’t know what is.

The show is Sept. 24th, starting at 6:30pm, on the Cal Poly Pomona quad.

If you don’t have an idea what they sound like or what to expect check out this video of them performing “…And the Battle Begun”
